Wedding Favours – really necessary?
I could be alone in thinking this, but are wedding favours really necessary? My experiences with them as a guest have generally been ‘Cute. Now what do I do with it?’, and I didn’t feel like the couple was being rude at all at the most recent wedding I went to that didn’t have any. It’s definitely a nice idea and obviously doesn’t have to be something functionally useless, but is it really worth the expense? Will people really take offense if I don’t give them an extra little gift after giving them a meal, drinks, entertainment and a ton of love? I’d rather come around and express my gratitude to my guests in person than say it with a monogrammed shotglass personally.
Just curious on other opinions out there, and if anyone else has skipped favours?
Sooooo not necessary! I’ve been to two weddings in my adult life, one with favours, one without. The one with they were edible (my preferred type). The one without I did not notice a single person throw a tantrum about not getting a pressie from the happy couple.
If I have them they will absolutely be edible! But yeah, it seems a sensible place to cut back and put more of the budget into more important things, like better booze!

Do you mean steal favours from each other? That’s just… bizarre. Unless they’re not very popular favours and the person didn’t want it anyway?
I’ve been to quite a few weddings that don’t have favours, and only have extremely simple centerpieces.
All of those couples had a charity very near and dear to their hearts though, so there was a card on the table that explained that in lieu of those things, they’d made a generous donation in the couple’s name to that charity.
I think it’s a great way to avoid just spending the money on the usual wedding things, or on favours that won’t be appreciated.

I know I’m really really late to the convo, but I just found your site today and have been reading through all afternoon! Anyway, we are thinking about doing a photobooth and having guests take 1 copy of the photos home as their favor and then getting them to print a second copy for our wedding book.
