DIY Wedding Dress?
This girl is totally my hero – she’s gone beyond the usual DIY stuff and actually made her own wedding dress. And as you can see from her later blog posts, it turned out freaking awesome! She also made her birdcage veil, bridesmaid dresses, and stationery. I love the fun flirty style of it all, and especially the puffy 50’s style dress!
I’ve been asked by a few people (who clearly think I’m a better seamstress than I actually am, or were joking) if I’m going to make my own dress. My straight answer was no, that’s crazy, you don’t make your own wedding dress if you’re a sewing noob like me. But after thinking about it… is it really that impossible? The style I have (vaguely) in mind is very simple and similar to dresses I’ve made before. I don’t really want intricate embroidery or beading for my dress. I have almost two years to work on my sewing skills and create a perfect dress. I’ll be back in Perth for some of that time, and will have access to my mum’s expertise and overlocker. If I make my own dress, I’ll be able to have more control over design and fabrics, and be able to afford more expensive fabric. I’d be perfectly happy getting an off-the-rack backup dress if it really didn’t work out.
The Boy looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned it, but we’ll see!

You’re a brave girl! But if you are craftily inclinded then I’d say def give it a shot!
I’m big on crafts and have really gotten into sewing recently, so I don’t think it’s too impossible! I definitely wouldn’t be able to make a crazy princess dress with train and bustle and detailing, but for what I have in mind it shouldn’t be too difficult. I think.
Thanks girlie!! You are too sweet! I’m no sewing pro either, more of a casual sewer who likes to figure out stuff. You should totally go for it! Especially if you find a pattern you like. (If I used a pattern it would have been a billion times easier) Good luck and Congrats!!
Oh hey, thanks for stopping by my blog! Your wedding really inspired me, I think I’ll definitely give making my dress a shot
